Effects of Residuse Oil Contamination on the Geotechnical Properties of Clay Soil
Abstract
The impacts of residues oil, light fuel oil, on the chemical, physical, and mechanical properties of clay soil have been investigated in the present work. The contaminant is wastewater effluent from the fuel oil of thermal electrical power plant and the intact soil sample was collected from the countryside of Alexandria city in the central region of Iraq. The clayey soil samples are artificially contaminated by two types of contaminant P1 which consists of (49% industrial wastewater, 21% kerosene, and 30% water) and P2 which consists of (70% industrial wastewater, and 30% kerosene). The soil specimens are covered with contaminants for a period of 30 days in sperate tightens closed plastic containers. The results of tests detected that residues oil have significant effects on the chemical and engineering properties of silty clay soil samples contaminated with two percentages of this contaminant.
