Abstract

This research presents a literature review of the performance of piles in liquefied soil. Previous studies have shown that soil liquefied severally damaged many structures supported on pile-foundations during earthquake events. Previous case histories have shown that soil liquefaction severely damaged piles performance under extreme loading conditions. In the current design, practices consider the influence of two types of loadings on the piles (axial and lateral loads). The vertical loads on the piles are well established throughout these years. In contrast, studies on combined axial and lateral loadings during earthquake events are limited and contain a suitable analysis method. This paper covered experimental and numerical studies about piles' performance in liquefied soil under different earthquake events conditions. The analysis process became easier with the debut a powerful computers and simulation tools like finite element software.
